Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel dedicated a segment of his Monday night monologue to scrutinizing former President Donald Trump's evolving stance on the release of documents connected to the late financier and convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.
Pressure and a Sudden Reversal on Epstein Files
Kimmel reported that Donald Trump spent months pressuring Republican lawmakers to block a discharge petition that would force the disclosure of the Epstein-related files. The comedian sarcastically noted that this aggressive lobbying was "exactly what someone who’s totally innocent and has nothing to hide would do."
With the discharge petition now expected to pass easily in the House of Representatives, the former president has abruptly changed his public position. He now claims to support the release of the files concerning Epstein, who was once a friend and associate.
A Political Rift and Unhinged Nicknames
This issue has driven a significant wedge between Trump and one of his most vocal supporters, Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia. In a surprising move, Trump pulled his endorsement of Greene and launched an attack on his Truth Social platform.
He referred to her as "Wacky Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown", adding a bizarre explanation that "Green turns to Brown when there is ROT involved!" Kimmel mocked the effort, quipping, "He’s so upset he couldn’t even come up with a decent nickname for her."
White House Soundtrack Raises Eyebrows
Kimmel also spotlighted unusual activity reported at the White House, where music was allegedly played so loudly it could be heard in the surrounding area. "Nothing to see there," Kimmel joked. "Just the president alone in the White House blasting ‘Phantom of the Opera’ at full volume while rage tweeting about how everybody’s out to get him."
The White House has a new speaker system that Trump can control directly from an iPad, which he reportedly used to its full potential. In addition to the show tune, the playlist included an Elton John classic.
"The music he’s playing is ‘Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me,’" Kimmel pointed out, before adding with his signature dry wit, "But don’t read anything into that."
