Kacey Musgraves has found herself at the center of a heated debate about inclusivity in fashion after a plus-size influencer criticized the singer for the limited sizing in her new clothing collaboration with Lee. The Grammy-winning artist launched the apparel line, sold exclusively at Walmart in the United States, but some plus-size fans expressed disappointment over the lack of extended sizes.
Influencer's Criticism
Megan Ixim, known as @msgiggles on social media, posted a video slamming the collection's sizing. "Guess who's being excluded again? That's right, fat people," the self-proclaimed fat activist said. "I personally find this really upsetting because plus sizes, and not selling them at Walmart, seems really silly to me. I feel like that's somewhere, historically, we've always found plus sizes." Ixim also accused Musgraves of excluding overweight shoppers in her previous collaboration with Reformation in 2024, claiming that only three designs were available in extended sizes.
Musgraves' Response
Musgraves responded to Ixim's rant on Instagram, writing, "Hiii not in my control at all. Sorry you're disappointed. Hope this helps!" The reply drew mixed reactions. Some followers sided with Ixim, calling Musgraves' response condescending. One user commented, "Huge celebrities trying to say they have no control over things like sizing is f—ing laughable. How about, 'Make everything available for fat girls or I'll take my name and collection elsewhere.'" Another called the reply "crazy." On Reddit, Musgraves was labeled "condescending," with one user writing, "The way this response could have been respectful, but she went out of her way to make it rude."
However, others defended the singer. One fan said, "If you can't fit into a particular brand, move on or lose weight. Stop trying to shame people because they don't make your large size." Another added, "Give it a rest! I've been plus-sized for 20+ years and I find styles that flatter my body not because they're trendy. You're just looking for attention." A third commented, "The woman was kind of snarky, so I suppose Kacey thought she should be snarky in kind."
Ixim's Follow-Up
After Musgraves' response, Ixim called the explanation "disingenuous" and said she would no longer support the artist. "As the person who is the entire reason and face of this launch, it feels like this would be something you could push back on," Ixim wrote. "Your plus-size fans love you and we want to have our moment in the sun supporting you." With Ixim's video racking up thousands of views, she returned to social media to accuse Musgraves of brushing off her complaints. "I'm the woman Kacey Musgraves basically told this week to go f— herself," she said in a follow-up video. "Initially, pretty cool to get a response. Until I realized how absolutely condescending this response was to me, our plus-size community, and her fans." Ixim added that she hasn't received an apology but is glad to have sparked a debate. "We should ask more from our celebrities," she said. "We can and should do more."
Lee and Walmart have yet to address Ixim's complaints.
