Pod Save America host Jon Favreau received an unusual surprise in March when he was invited to President Donald Trump's UFC fight at the White House. However, the invitation was actually meant for the actor and director Jon Favreau.
The Invitation Mix-Up
Favreau shared the story on social media, revealing that he received an email from TKO Events inviting him to UFC Freedom 250 on June 14. The email read: "Jon. We are honored to invite you to UFC Freedom 250 on Sunday, June 14, a special evening celebrating our country."
As a former Obama speechwriter and co-founder of Crooked Media, Favreau is a vocal critic of Trump, making the invitation surprising. He realized the error likely involved the actor Jon Favreau, but he decided to RSVP anyway.
RSVP and Confirmation
Favreau received a confirmation on April 2, stating his ticket was confirmed. He made plans and purchased a ticket to Washington, D.C. However, the mistake was discovered when he submitted his full legal name, Jonathan Edward Favreau, which differed from the actor's middle initial K.
The Retraction
TKO Events later sent a follow-up email apologizing for the miscommunication and rescinding the invitation due to being under-allotted. Favreau expressed his disappointment, saying, "Fuck, I was so close. They got me." He added that he would have kept the White House visit a secret until safely out.
TKO did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Favreau's claims.
