Jimmy Kimmel has acknowledged that President Donald Trump could still play a role in the cancellation of his late-night show. In a candid interview with Vulture published Monday, the comedian admitted there is a chance Trump might seize on one of his jokes to pressure ABC into ending the long-running program.
Trump's Ongoing Targeting of Kimmel
The president has long targeted Kimmel, frequently amplifying right-wing outrage over the host's jokes. Most recently, Trump weighed in after Kimmel was temporarily suspended for remarks following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and a later quip about Melania Trump.
Kimmel's Defense and Concerns
In both instances, Kimmel told Vulture, “I had the truth on my side as a defense.” However, he added, “What if I actually do do something wrong?” Laughing, he said, “I mean, that’s inevitable.”
Kimmel, whose contract runs until May 2027, also reflected on the end of Stephen Colbert's “The Late Show.” “I feel a little bit defeated by it,” he said. “In a lot of ways, I feel like I’m looking at my own future.”
Late-Night Shows Under Siege
Kimmel commented on the broader challenges facing late-night shows, which are routinely attacked by Trump and his MAGA movement for their criticism. “We’re not just dying of natural causes. We’re being poisoned,” he said.
