David Harbour Denies Lily Allen's Cheating Allegations

David Harbour is addressing cheating accusations made by his ex-wife, Lily Allen, in her recent album. The Stranger Things star, who was married to Allen from 2020 to 2025, spoke out in an interview with Variety published on Wednesday.

Harbour Responds to Allen's Musical Claims

Allen's 14-track album West End Girl, released last October, includes several songs that appear to detail infidelity in their marriage. Harbour acknowledged the awkward timing, as he was promoting the final season of Stranger Things when the album dropped.

“It was weird,” Harbour said. “I do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that.”

He declined to discuss specifics, emphasizing his desire for privacy. “I can’t really say that much more because it’s my private life. In spite of the fact that a lot of people don’t allow me a private life — I value it. And I also value the lives of the people that I interact with privately. I just won’t speak about that.”

When pressed to directly address Allen's allegations, Harbour remained firm. “Stories are complex,” he replied. “And that’s why I say I respect her creation of art to channel her experience. It wasn’t my experience.”

The Split and Allen's Album

Harbour and Allen met in 2019 and married in a Las Vegas ceremony in 2020. By February 2025, reports emerged that the couple had separated, with sources describing Allen as “devastated” and the marriage as “crumbling.”

On West End Girl, Allen does not name Harbour explicitly but references a partner who was a “sex addict” leading a “double life” and “went astray.” She also suggested the marriage was open, alleging Harbour violated their agreement by keeping a separate apartment for affairs.

Allen defended the album, stating it was not intended to be cruel. “Some of it is based on truth and some of it is fantasy,” she told Interview. “It’s not a cruel album. I don’t feel like I’m being mean. It was just the feelings I was processing at the time.”

Harbour, known for his role as Jim Hopper on Stranger Things, has largely avoided public discussion of the divorce. He is currently promoting the final season of the Netflix series.
