Christina Applegate Hospitalized Amid Multiple Sclerosis Battle
Actress Christina Applegate has reportedly been hospitalized in Los Angeles as she continues her ongoing battle with multiple sclerosis. The 54-year-old star, best known for roles in Samantha Who? and Jesse, was admitted to a medical facility in late March according to reports from TMZ.
Details Remain Private
It remains unclear whether Applegate's hospitalization is directly related to her multiple sclerosis diagnosis. The actress was first diagnosed with the autoimmune disease in 2021 and has been open about her health struggles since that time. A spokesperson for Applegate declined to comment on her current medical situation when contacted by media outlets.
"I have no comment on whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are," the representative told Page Six. "She's had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast."
Public Health Journey
Applegate first revealed her multiple sclerosis diagnosis publicly in August 2021 through an emotional social media post. "Hi friends. A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS," she wrote on X. "It's been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition. It's been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going."
The actress has continued to share her experiences with the disease, including in her recent memoir You With the Sad Eyes where she detailed daily challenges. "When I wake up, I often can't get my arm to move far enough to grab the cup of water by my bed or my phone from its charger," Applegate wrote about her morning struggles.
Balancing Health and Family
Despite her health challenges, Applegate has emphasized her commitment to family life. In a February interview with People magazine, she discussed making special efforts to participate in her 15-year-old daughter Sadie's daily routine despite experiencing constant pain.
"I want to take her to school; it's my favourite thing to do," Applegate explained. "It's the only time we have together by ourselves. I tell myself, 'Just get her there safely and get home so you can get back into bed.' And that's what I do."
Professional Adjustments
The news of Applegate's hospitalization follows the announcement that her podcast MeSsy would be going on hiatus. Co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler revealed on March 31 that both hosts would be taking time off for book tours. Applegate has maintained her professional activities while managing her health condition, continuing to engage with fans through various media projects.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system, disrupting communication between the brain and body. Symptoms vary widely but often include fatigue, mobility issues, and pain. Applegate's openness about her diagnosis has brought increased attention to the condition and the experiences of those living with it.
