Cara Delevingne has confirmed the decade-old rumour that she and Amber Heard were once romantically involved. The 33-year-old model and actress made the revelation on the latest episode of the Louis Theroux Podcast, disclosing that they were “entangled” during Heard’s highly publicized divorce from Johnny Depp.
Delevingne Details Relationship Timeline
Theroux asked Delevingne about “the Johnny Depp thing,” referencing previous speculation of a romantic affair. Delevingne explained that she and Heard, 40, co-starred in the film London Fields, which premiered in 2018 but ran production from 2013 to 2015. During filming, Delevingne said Depp “was pretty driven crazy by jealousy,” but noted that “nothing was happening at that point. Later, after they divorced, it had, I suppose.”
When Theroux pressed her to clarify, Delevingne admitted, “No, I don’t suppose. I know.” She described the relationship as an “entanglement,” which Theroux defined as “a relatively short-lived liaison or series of physical encounters.” Delevingne, who has been dating British singer Minke since 2022, elaborated that she and Heard were “close for a long time, and then when they were going through the divorce, yeah, we were entangled, I suppose.” She added, “But she was also entangled with other people.” Theroux mentioned Elon Musk, to which Delevingne agreed.
Background of the Defamation Trial
In 2019, Depp sued Heard for $50 million, claiming she defamed him in a 2018 Washington Post essay about being a victim of domestic abuse. Heard countersued for $100 million. Their 2022 defamation trial became one of the most sensational in Hollywood, featuring star witnesses including Kate Moss and Ellen Barkin. Depp accused Heard of having affairs with Delevingne and Musk. A jury found both liable for defamation, though Depp was awarded more substantial damages.
At the time, Delevingne and Heard did not confirm their relationship. Heard and Musk dated briefly in 2016 after she split from Depp, confirming their romance in April 2017 before splitting four months later.
Heard’s Life After the Trial
Following the trial, Heard moved to Mallorca, Spain, before settling in Madrid, where she lives with her three children: Oonagh, 5, and twins Agnes and Ocean, born in May 2025. In a Mother’s Day Instagram post, she wrote, “This year I am elated beyond words to celebrate the completion of the family I’ve strived to build for years. When I had my first baby girl Oonagh four years ago, my world changed forever. Becoming a mother by myself and on my own terms despite my own fertility challenges has been the most humbling experience of my life.”
