Britney Spears' Former Assistant Questions DUI Arrest Timing and Alleges Financial Motive

Britney Spears' former personal assistant and close friend of two decades, Sean Phillip, has publicly characterized the pop icon's recent DUI arrest as "suspicious," suggesting it may be connected to her newfound financial independence. In an interview with Extra on Tuesday, Phillip expressed concerns that external forces could be targeting the singer following her major music rights sale.

Allegations of Financial Motivations Behind the Arrest

Phillip directly linked Spears' arrest to her recent $200 million deal with publisher Primary Wave, through which she sold the rights to her music catalog along with other unspecified assets. "I think there are some people out to get her," Phillip told the outlet. "And the timing is so off that she gets financial independence and then she's arrested."

The former assistant went further, alleging this could represent "a push to put her back in a conservatorship." He pointedly noted, "Guess what happened when the conservatorship stopped? People stopped getting money." Spears was released from her nearly 14-year conservatorship in November 2021 after a highly publicized legal battle.

Details of the Arrest and Ongoing Concerns

Spears was arrested on suspicion of DUI at approximately 9:30 p.m. on March 4 in Ventura County, California, according to multiple media reports. Police dispatch audio obtained by Page Six and TMZ indicated she was allegedly seen speeding and swerving between lanes while driving a black 2026 BMW convertible. She was released early the following morning and is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on May 4.

Phillip, who first became friends with Spears in 2003, revealed that the singer texted him after her arrest to assure him she was okay. However, he maintains significant concerns about her current situation, stating, "I don't think she's free. There's still a care plan in place. I personally don't think she has access to all her finances, but a lot of other people do, and I don't think it's fair."

Public Statements and Support System

Appearing on Good Morning Britain on March 6, Phillip expressed sympathy for Spears, saying, "it makes me feel bad when she has to endure public mistakes." He added, "You have to imagine what she's going through all these times. I think she's going to be OK. She's one of the strongest people that I've ever met. She gives me inspiration to go forward sometimes."

Spears' representative Cade Hudson provided a statement to HuffPost last week addressing the incident, calling it "an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable." The statement continued, "Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time."

Hudson further noted that Spears' sons would be spending time with her and that "her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being."

Call for Personal Advocacy

Throughout his interviews, Phillip emphasized his belief that Spears could clarify the situation herself if she chose to speak publicly. "I encourage her to speak for herself [because] she can squash everything in a second," he told Extra. The 44-year-old "Toxic" singer has not yet made any public statements regarding her DUI arrest or the surrounding allegations.

The incident has reignited discussions about Spears' post-conservatorship life and the ongoing challenges she faces in maintaining her independence while navigating public scrutiny and legal matters.
