Barry Manilow, 82, Postpones Shows for Lung Cancer Surgery
Barry Manilow diagnosed with lung cancer, delays concerts

Legendary singer-songwriter Barry Manilow has shared a serious health update with his fans. The 82-year-old music icon announced he has been diagnosed with lung cancer and will undergo surgery, forcing the postponement of several upcoming concert dates.

Diagnosis Follows Persistent Bronchitis

In a detailed post on his Instagram account on Monday, Manilow explained how the cancer was discovered. He revealed he had recently endured a six-week bout of bronchitis, which was followed by a relapse lasting another five weeks. Even after he felt better and returned to his residency at the Westgate Las Vegas, his doctor ordered a precautionary MRI. That scan revealed a cancerous spot on his left lung.

"It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early. That’s the good news," Manilow wrote to his followers. He emphasized the importance of vigilance, stating, "if you have even the slightest symptom … get tested!"

Concert Schedule Disrupted for Recovery

The "Copacabana" singer delivered what he called "the bad news" for ticket holders. To have the spot removed, he requires surgery and anticipates needing a full month to recover. Consequently, his planned "A Gift of Love" Christmas concerts and all January performances are affected.

Shows scheduled for Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Ohio in January will now be rescheduled. Manilow expressed his regret, writing, "I’m very sorry that you have to change your plans. Just like you, we were all looking forward to the January shows and hate having to move everything around."

Optimistic Outlook and Past Health Battles

Manilow's message carried a tone of optimism regarding his treatment plan. He clarified that doctors do not believe the cancer has spread and confirmed he will not require chemotherapy or radiation. His post-surgery recovery prescription includes "chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns."

This is not the first health challenge the Grammy-winning artist has faced publicly. In 2020, he successfully battled throat cancer thanks to early detection. He also dealt with bronchitis in 2013, which led to rescheduled shows during his Broadway comeback.

The singer is already looking ahead, counting the days until he can return to the stage. He is targeting a comeback for his Valentine's Day weekend concerts at the Westgate Las Vegas on February 12-14, 2026. "Something tells me that February weekend is going to be one big party!" he enthused.

Fans holding tickets for the postponed January concerts will be able to use them for the rescheduled dates, which are now set to run from February 27 through April 29. Manilow signed off his announcement with holiday wishes, hoping fans have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.
