Ariana Grande embraces nip slip with Showgirls homage in new video
Ariana Grande embraces nip slip with Showgirls homage

Ariana Grande has responded to an inadvertent wardrobe malfunction by posting a video that pays homage to the 1995 film Showgirls. The singer-actress shared the clip on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday, appearing to address the incident with humor.

Video recreates iconic Showgirls moment

In the video, Grande is seen alongside her friend and former Victorious co-star Liz Gillies, sipping champagne. Gillies then looks down at Grande's chest and says, “You have great t***.” She adds, “They’re really beautiful.” Grande, wearing a platinum blonde wig and a low-cut pink top, replies, “Thank you.” The exchange mirrors a scene from the Paul Verhoeven film, where Elizabeth Berkley's character Nomi receives a similar compliment.

Wardrobe malfunction on Instagram

The video came one day after Grande posted a carousel of photos on Instagram. The first image showed her and Gillies embracing, but the third photo captured Grande crouching to pet a dog, with her red-and-white gingham dress falling forward to reveal her chest. Presumably, Grande was unaware of the gap before she reposted the image to her Instagram Stories.

Grande and Gillies' love for Showgirls

Showgirls has long been a favorite for the duo. For Halloween in 2023, Grande dressed as Nomi while Gillies transformed into Gina Gershon's character Cristal. Berkley praised the tribute in an Instagram post at the time, writing, “The magical @arianagrande recreated my #Nomi for #halloween with all the love and attention to detail that only an artist with her heart and creative genius could do.” Grande replied, “You are simply the most gorgeous ever! We love you so much and had so much fun paying homage to you both. Thank you for changing us forever with your brilliant and iconic Nomi.”

Ongoing tour and upcoming projects

Grande is currently in the midst of her 41-show Eternal Sunshine Tour, which is touring North America before heading to London's O2 Arena for 10 shows in August and September. The Oscar nominee also has the upcoming film Focker-In-Law, the latest sequel in the Meet the Parents franchise, set for release in November.
