His daughters Emily and Daisy confirmed the news in a statement to The Independent, noting that he passed away peacefully surrounded by family due to complications from pneumonia.
"It has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many," the statement read. "We know how dearly he will be missed by friends, colleagues, and fans of the shows he was in – he loved his job very much, and he always considered himself incredibly lucky, to have been able to work alongside such exceptionally talented people in such wonderful productions across a career that spanned several decades."

Head rose to international fame in 1997 when he was cast as Rupert Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, playing the father figure to Sarah Michelle Gellar's Buffy Summers. He appeared in the first six seasons and returned as a guest star for the final season in 2003. More recently, he portrayed Rupert Mannion in the Apple TV+ comedy Ted Lasso, the former owner of AFC Richmond who gives up the club to his ex-wife Rebecca Welton, played by Hannah Waddingham.
His extensive television credits also include roles in British series such as Little Britain, Silent Witness, My Family, The Inbetweeners, and Merlin, where he played King Uther Pendragon.
