Ali Larter Shares Candid Thoughts on Filming Bikini Scenes for Landman
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, actress Ali Larter opened up about her experiences filming bikini scenes for the Paramount+ series Landman. Despite her character's bold and body-positive attitude, Larter admits that these scenes are among her least favourite parts of the job.
The Challenge of On-Screen Confidence
Larter, who plays Angela Norris—the energetic wife of oil fixer Tommy Norris and mother to two children on the show—explained that while her character is a shopaholic who doesn't mind flaunting her body, the reality of filming such scenes is far from enjoyable. "I don't think there's an actress alive that's like, 'Woo! Got a bikini scene!'" Larter, 49, told the outlet. "Nobody wants to do it."
She elaborated on the personal struggles involved, noting that it requires significant mental effort to overcome insecurities and anxiety. "No matter what, it's like, I've got to spend all this time fighting off my own insecurities, my own anxiety, to be able to put on that bikini and walk into these scenes," she said.
Fitness Regimen and Mental Preparation
To prepare for her role, Larter follows a strict diet and workout routine, which she detailed in the interview. She wakes up at 4:30 a.m. on Mondays for a 30-minute run and emphasizes eating clean, with a focus on high protein intake. "I'm one of those protein mommies. I eat so much protein all day long. It works for me," she shared.
Despite the physical preparation, Larter highlighted that the key to portraying Angela's confidence lies in mental attitude. She said that the sexiest women are those who "own it," and she channels this mindset for her character. "In the end, anytime you have to put on a bathing suit and walk in front of anybody, it's really difficult," she admitted.
Embracing Character Traits
Larter finds playing Angela exciting because it allows her to explore a persona that contrasts with her own. "For me, that's so exciting to play, because I'm not like that. And you really can't be like that in most areas of life if you want to fit into the societal norms," she explained. She believes that true sexiness comes from within, noting that Angela "owns it on the inside, too."
The actress also mentioned engaging in strength training and adopting a fearless attitude to embody her character fully. "She walks through life without the fear of judgment of others," Larter said, which helps her deliver a compelling performance despite the challenges.
Availability of the Series
All episodes of Landman Seasons 1 and 2 are currently available for streaming on Paramount+. The show, which features a star-studded cast including Billy Bob Thornton and Michelle Randolph, continues to attract viewers with its dramatic storytelling and complex characters.
Larter's candid remarks shed light on the often-unseen pressures actors face, even when portraying confident and glamorous roles. Her honesty resonates with many who understand the intersection of personal vulnerability and professional demands in the entertainment industry.
