Windsor-Essex Bookstore Crawl Highlights Local Literary Gems
Windsor-Essex Bookstore Crawl Spotlights Local Literary Gems

Book enthusiasts in the Windsor-Essex region have a compelling reason to explore locally owned bookstores this weekend. Six independent bookshops are joining forces for the inaugural Bookstore Crawl, scheduled to take place from April 24 to 26.

Customers who make an in-store purchase at all six participating bookstores between Friday and Sunday will receive card stamps. These stamps can be exchanged for a chance to win a basket filled with book-related merchandise and a Penguin Little Black Classics box set featuring 50 classic novellas. No minimum purchase is required to participate.

Building Community Through Books

Scarlet Kennedy, a bookseller at Biblioasis, emphasized the importance of the event in connecting residents with nearby bookstores. She noted that many shops host book clubs and events that customers might not be aware of. The crawl aims to showcase the diverse offerings of each store, located in Windsor, Oldcastle, and Amherstburg.

Kennedy highlighted the economic benefits of supporting local businesses, stating that money spent at independent bookstores stays within the community, unlike purchases from large chains or online retailers. She added that bookstores provide more than just books; they serve as gathering places for like-minded individuals.

Unique Experiences at Local Bookstores

Several participating stores, such as Biblioasis, regularly feature local authors and musical performances. Kennedy noted that book lovers often seek opportunities to discuss their passion, and small bookstores fill a void as "third spaces" where people can connect face-to-face. The crawl encourages visitors to engage with staff, join book clubs, and discover the unique character of each shop.

The event coincides with Canadian Independent Bookstore Day on April 25, further underscoring the value of supporting independent retailers.
