Top Authors to Lead September Series

The Vancouver Writers Fest has announced that best-selling and award-winning authors Colson Whitehead, Emily St. John Mandel, and R.F. Kuang will headline special events this September. The series kicks off with Whitehead, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, in conversation with Vancouver writer William Johnson at the Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema on September 16 at 7:30 p.m.

Whitehead's latest book, Cool Machine, the finale to his acclaimed Harlem Trilogy (Harlem Shuffle, Crook Manifesto), will be released on July 21. Tickets for his event go on sale July 8 at 10 a.m.

Emily St. John Mandel to Appear September 21

Emily St. John Mandel will be in conversation with Vancouver journalist and editor Michelle Cyca on September 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Vancouver Playhouse. The Comox Valley native has written six novels, including Station Eleven, which has been translated into 33 languages and adapted into an HBO limited series. Mandel's new book, Exit Party, will be released on September 15. Tickets for this event go on sale July 15 at 10 a.m.

R.F. Kuang to Speak September 26

Chinese-American writer R.F. Kuang, known for best-selling speculative and fantasy fiction works such as Katabasis and Yellowface, will speak with Vancouver author Jen Sookfong Lee on September 26 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew's-Wesley United Church. Tickets go on sale July 27 at 10 a.m. Included in the ticket price is a pre-signed limited-edition copy of Kuang's new book Taipei Story, which hits bookshelves on September 8.

Writers Fest Runs October 18-25

This year's Vancouver Writers Fest runs October 18-25 and will welcome around 140 authors. To prepare for the 39th annual event, the festival has released its official reading list. According to organizers, the September series is designed to build anticipation for the main festival. Tickets for all events are available through the Writers Fest website.
