Retired Canadian ice dancer Tessa Virtue is set to make her off-ice dance debut at the upcoming Fall for Dance North festival in Toronto. The announcement was made by festival organizers on Tuesday.
Transition from Ice to Stage
Virtue, who won five Olympic medals including three golds with partner Scott Moir, will perform a contemporary dance piece choreographed by acclaimed dancer and choreographer Crystal Pite. The performance marks Virtue's first public dance appearance since retiring from competitive figure skating in 2020.
“I’m thrilled to be part of Fall for Dance North and to explore a new form of expression,” Virtue said in a statement. “Crystal Pite’s work has always inspired me, and I’m excited to collaborate with her on this project.”

Fall for Dance North, scheduled for October 15-18, 2026, at Toronto’s Meridian Hall, will feature a diverse lineup of dance performances from local and international artists. Virtue’s piece is expected to be one of the highlights of the festival.
Festival director Ilter Ibrahimof expressed enthusiasm about Virtue’s involvement: “Tessa Virtue is a true artist, and we are honored to welcome her to the dance stage. This collaboration represents a beautiful bridge between figure skating and contemporary dance.”
Virtue and Moir retired from competitive skating in 2020 after a storied career that included Olympic gold medals in 2010 and 2018, as well as multiple world championships. Since retiring, Virtue has pursued various projects, including coaching and advocacy work.
