Emma and David Jarrett, a retired couple, have opened an art business and inn at Hall's Harbour, Nova Scotia, combining their love for creativity and hospitality. The venture, located in the picturesque fishing village, features a gallery showcasing local artwork and a cozy inn for visitors.
From Retirement to Entrepreneurship
The Jarretts, who previously worked in education and healthcare, decided to pursue their dream of running a business after retiring. Emma, an artist, focuses on managing the gallery, while David handles the inn operations. The couple renovated a historic building to house both the art space and accommodations, preserving its character while adding modern amenities.
Supporting Local Artists
The gallery features works from over 20 regional artists, including paintings, pottery, and textiles. Emma Jarrett emphasized the importance of supporting local talent: We want to create a space where artists can share their work and visitors can take home a piece of Nova Scotia's beauty.
Tourism Boost for Hall's Harbour
The opening comes as Hall's Harbour, known for its dramatic tides and lobster fishing, sees increased tourism. The inn offers four guest rooms, each decorated with local art, and a common area with views of the Bay of Fundy. The couple hopes their business will attract more visitors to the area year-round.
Community Response
Local officials have welcomed the new business. Hall's Harbour Community Association president noted that the venture adds to the village's charm and provides economic benefits. The Jarretts plan to host art workshops and events to engage both residents and tourists.
