David "Tiger" Coward embarked on a remarkable journey from Kingsville, Ontario, to Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories, covering 7,000 kilometers on his Triumph Tiger 1200 motorcycle. The trip, which began on June 2, 2026, aims to raise funds for the SickKids Foundation.
A Unique Route Across Canada
Coward's journey is not the typical east-to-west crossing. Instead, he is traveling from south to north, starting from the shores of Lake Erie and heading toward the Arctic Ocean. This route takes him through some of Canada's most remote and challenging highways.
"I'm doing it a little differently," Coward said. "Instead of going east to west, I'm going from south to north."
Charity and Community Support
The ride has grown beyond a personal challenge into a charitable endeavor. Coward is collecting donations for the SickKids Foundation, with a QR code available on his Facebook page for supporters to contribute. "On my Facebook channel you can find the QR code there and go in and join us and make donations for it, just to make it that much deeper of a meaning," he explained.
The Town of Kingsville held a send-off event for Coward on Tuesday, highlighting the community's support. Mayor and residents gathered to wish him well as he began his cross-country adventure.
Inspiring Travel and Understanding
Coward hopes his journey will encourage others to explore and connect with people from different backgrounds. "The biggest thing I want to say is that we're in a time of bitterness and dissension and unhappiness, and our biggest tool to combat that, I think, is travel," he said.
Quoting Mark Twain, he added, "Travel defeats narrow-mindedness and bigotry, and I can't help but agree with that." By meeting people across the country, Coward believes we can foster greater understanding and harmony.
