Historic Saskatchewan Hotel Transforms into 1920s Themed Destination
Historic Sask. Hotel Becomes 1920s Themed Site

Kent Karemaker is on a mission to breathe new life into the Grand Hotel Shaunavon, a historic property built in 1929 in Saskatchewan. He describes the project as akin to a film set, aiming to transform the hotel into a fully immersive 1920s-themed experience.

A Passion for Preservation

Karemaker's passion for the hotel stems from its rich history and architectural significance. 'It's like walking onto a movie set from the Roaring Twenties,' he said. The hotel will feature period-appropriate decor, furnishings, and activities, transporting guests back to the jazz age.

Plans for the Grand Hotel

The renovation includes restoring original features such as the lobby's tin ceiling and hardwood floors, while adding modern amenities discreetly. Karemaker envisions speakeasy-style bars, vintage dance halls, and themed events. 'We want guests to feel they've stepped into another era,' he explained.
