Construction on the $24 million replacement of Scheifele Bridge in Woolwich is set to begin this summer, according to local officials. The project, which has been in the planning stages for several years, aims to address aging infrastructure and improve safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Project Details
The new bridge will replace the existing structure, which was built in the 1950s and has been deemed structurally deficient. The replacement will feature wider lanes, dedicated bike paths, and improved pedestrian walkways. The project is expected to be completed by late 2027.
Community Impact
During construction, traffic will be diverted to alternate routes, with detours clearly marked. Local businesses and residents have been notified of potential disruptions. The project is funded jointly by the provincial and municipal governments.
Officials say the new bridge will enhance connectivity in the region and support economic growth. Woolwich Mayor Sandy Shantz expressed optimism about the project, stating that it represents a significant investment in the community's future.
