Ontario Provincial Police have charged a Brampton man with impaired driving following a traffic complaint in northern Ontario. The incident occurred on June 25, 2026, when officers responded to a report of a possible impaired driver on Highway 17 near the town of Nipigon.
Traffic complaint leads to arrest
According to police, the complaint was made by a concerned motorist who observed erratic driving behavior. Officers located the vehicle, a commercial transport truck, and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 45-year-old Manpreet Singh, showed signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested.
Singh has been charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs and operation of a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg per 100 mL of blood. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on July 15, 2026.
OPP emphasize road safety
OPP officials remind the public that impaired driving remains a leading cause of fatal collisions in Canada. "Impaired driving is completely preventable, and we urge everyone to plan ahead for a safe ride home," said OPP Constable Marie Tremblay in a statement. The investigation is ongoing.
