Ontario Provincial Police have charged a driver with stunt driving on Highway 417 after the driver was reportedly carrying a passenger in the trunk with the tailgate open.

Incident Details

Police say they observed the passenger riding in the open tailgate on the Queensway shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026. The individual was filming two sports cars driving behind the vehicle.

The driver's licence has been suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days, OPP said in a social media post on Tuesday. The driver now faces a minimum $2,000 fine, six demerit points, and a one-year driving prohibition upon conviction.

Meanwhile, the passenger was charged with occupying a position in a vehicle that did not have a seatbelt and has been fined $240, police added.

Police did not disclose the ages of the driver or the passenger in the post.

The OPP East Region shared a photo of the SUV on social media, noting the dangerous behavior and urging the public to drive safely.
