A new truck pull-out rest area has officially opened near Moosomin, Saskatchewan, offering a much-needed stopping point for commercial drivers traveling along the Trans-Canada Highway. The facility is designed to improve road safety by providing a designated area for truckers to rest, reducing fatigue-related incidents.
Location and Features
The rest area is situated approximately 10 kilometers east of Moosomin, easily accessible from both directions of the highway. It includes parking spaces for multiple trucks, picnic tables, and waste disposal facilities. The site is equipped with lighting and signage to ensure visibility at night.
Community and Economic Impact
Local officials have praised the opening, noting that it supports the trucking industry and boosts the local economy. Moosomin Mayor Larry Tomlinson stated that the rest area will encourage drivers to stop in the community, potentially increasing business at nearby services.
The project was funded through a partnership between the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and the federal government's infrastructure program. Construction began in early 2025 and was completed on schedule.
