A 62-year-old motorcyclist has died following a single-vehicle collision in Westlock County last week, Alberta RCMP confirmed.
Details of the Incident
On Friday at approximately 11:20 p.m., officers from the Westlock detachment responded to a report of a motorcycle crash on Highway 44, just north of Township Road 602. The rider, a man from Westlock, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
RCMP Corporal Teri-Ann Bakker stated that a collision analyst attended the scene to determine the motorcycle's speed and other factors. Preliminary findings indicate that the bike encountered a curve, rolled, and went off the roadway into a ditch.
Safety Reminder for Motorcyclists
Bakker emphasized the heightened risks motorcyclists face: "Motorcyclists certainly have to be more aware of their surroundings, as many factors come into play compared to being in a car collision." The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the vulnerability of motorcyclists on Alberta roads. RCMP urge all drivers to remain vigilant and share the road safely.
