Ontario Provincial Police have confirmed that the eastbound lanes of Highway 407 in Oakville have fully reopened following a tragic collision early Thursday morning that claimed at least one life.
Crash Details and Response
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene around 5:30 a.m. on May 1, 2026, after reports of a serious multi-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers discovered that one person had been pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the collision remains under investigation, but police have indicated that speed and weather conditions may have been contributing factors.
The highway was closed for several hours as investigators reconstructed the accident and cleared debris. Traffic was diverted to local roads, causing significant delays during the morning commute. By 7:24 a.m., all eastbound lanes were reopened to traffic.
