Police have charged seven middle-aged individuals in connection with a string of equipment and machinery thefts in the Barrie area. The accused, who range in age from 35 to 55, face multiple charges including theft over $5,000 and possession of stolen property.
Details of the Investigation
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) launched an investigation after several reports of stolen trailers and heavy equipment from construction sites and farms in the region. The thefts occurred over a period of several weeks in the spring of 2026.
Investigators executed search warrants at multiple locations, recovering stolen property valued at over $1 million. The recovered items include trailers, excavators, and other heavy machinery.
Charges Laid
The seven individuals have been charged with numerous offenses. They are scheduled to appear in a Barrie court later this month. The OPP has not ruled out further arrests.
Police are reminding the public to secure their equipment and report any suspicious activity to authorities. The investigation is ongoing.
