Dunkin' is making a comeback in Canada. The popular coffee and donut chain, which left the country in 2018, has announced plans to open hundreds of new locations across Canada. The first new Dunkin' is expected to open in late 2026 or early 2027.
Master Franchising Agreement
Restaurant operator Foodtastic has signed a master franchising agreement with Inspire Brands, Dunkin's parent company, to bring the brand back to Canada. The agreement will see hundreds of Dunkin' locations opened across the country.
Foodtastic founder and CEO Peter Mammas expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. "Bringing Dunkin' back to Canada is a significant growth opportunity for Foodtastic and our franchise partners across the country," Mammas said in a statement. "This agreement demonstrates the strength of our relationship with Inspire Brands and the confidence we have built together through our work with Jimmy John's in Canada."
Menu Offerings
The new Dunkin' locations will offer a wide range of products, including hot and iced coffees, espresso beverages, teas, donuts, sandwiches, and snacks. The chain is known for its coffee and donuts, but has expanded its menu in recent years.
History in Canada
Dunkin' last operated in Canada in 2018, the same year it dropped 'Donuts' from its name. Its remaining locations in Quebec were closed after a long decline in the Canadian market. The return marks a new chapter for the brand in Canada.
Foodtastic's Portfolio
Foodtastic already operates a portfolio of 27 brands, including Second Cup, Freshii, and Pita Pit, across 1,200 locations in Canada. The company has a proven track record of growing restaurant brands, which made it an ideal partner for Dunkin's return.
International Growth
Dunkin', founded in 1950, is the largest U.S. coffee and donut brand with more than 14,200 restaurants in nearly 40 global markets. Michael Haley, president of International at Inspire Brands, highlighted the brand's international success. "Dunkin's international footprint continues to thrive, so we are excited to bring this iconic brand to Canada through a strong, like-minded partner," Haley said. "Foodtastic has a proven track record of successfully growing leading restaurant brands, already established with their early progress growing Jimmy John's."
The partnership is expected to bring jobs and economic benefits to communities across Canada as Dunkin' re-establishes its presence in the country.
