StreetSide Wins Third Multi-Family Builder of the Year Award

StreetSide Developments Achieves Historic Three-Peat as Multi-Family Builder of the Year

For the third consecutive year, StreetSide Developments has been honored as the Multi-family Builder of the Year at the BILD Edmonton Metro Awards of Excellence in Housing. The prestigious recognition, awarded in March 2026 at the Edmonton Convention Center, underscores the company's sustained excellence in creating innovative residential spaces across the greater Edmonton region.

A Legacy of Excellence and Forward Momentum

Nicholas Carels, Vice-President of StreetSide Developments, emphasizes that the company refuses to rest on its laurels despite this remarkable winning streak. "The plan is to move forward," Carels stated. "I wouldn't be doing my job if I just looked back on past success." This forward-thinking approach has not only earned them the Builder of the Year title but also Recognition for Most Home Sales for three years running.

In addition to these accolades, StreetSide secured the most awards of any home builder, developer, or renovator at the 2026 ceremony, marking another three-peat achievement that highlights their industry leadership.

Innovative Housing Solutions for First-Time Buyers

StreetSide is revolutionizing multi-family living with the introduction of back-to-back, two-storey townhomes. Carels describes this new offering as "a cross between a townhome and an apartment block" where residents have neighbors beside and behind them, but no one above or below.

This innovative design achieves an accessible price point of $230,000 to $240,000, specifically targeting first-time homebuyers and investors. "You're in there with a household income of under $60,000 a year," Carels explained. "The average income in Edmonton is $58,000. Our original goal was to create a new home option for someone earning an average income in Edmonton."

A show home model of these innovative townhomes is now available for viewing in the Marquis neighborhood of northeast Edmonton, providing prospective buyers with firsthand experience of this groundbreaking housing solution.

Expansion into the Rental Market

Building on their expertise in multi-family construction, StreetSide is now strategically expanding into the rental housing sector. "In creating all these different styles of homes in all these different communities, it's also made us a great provider for rental product," Carels noted.

The company, part of the Qualico group, leverages significant construction resources and trade relationships to execute multiple projects simultaneously. Currently, StreetSide has three active rental projects underway, with additional groups approaching them for construction partnerships.

The rental market represents approximately half of all housing starts in Edmonton today, depending on measurement methods. StreetSide's award-winning designs and construction capabilities position them perfectly to translate their success in the for-sale market into in-demand rental properties.

Sustained Recognition and Industry Impact

StreetSide's Abbey project also received recognition at the 2026 awards, winning Best Multi-Family Townhome/Duplex in the $350,001 to $400,000 category. This additional honor further demonstrates the company's consistent quality across different price points and housing types.

As StreetSide continues to push boundaries in multi-family living, their triple crown of Builder of the Year awards serves as both validation of their past achievements and motivation for future innovation. With new townhome designs making homeownership more accessible and strategic expansion into rental construction, StreetSide Developments is reshaping Edmonton's housing landscape while maintaining their position as industry leaders.
