For Luke and Tom Obodzinski, constructing beautiful homes is more than a profession—it is a lifelong passion. Growing up in the residential construction industry, the two brothers learned the trade from their father, Mark, a framer and homebuilder, wielding hammers and tape measures as teenagers. Years later, their family-run company, Dream Ridge Homes, has earned some of the highest accolades in the industry.
Award-Winning Excellence
Dream Ridge Homes was named the 2025 Building Industry and Land Development (BILD) Calgary Region’s Small Volume Single Family Builder of the Year, capturing the Grand Award title for the third time. This marks their third win in six years, having also secured the award in 2020 and 2023. Luke Obodzinski expressed gratitude, stating, "We’re so lucky and so grateful. This is the third time in six years that we have won, which is really cool."
At the 2025 BILDCR Awards held in April, the company also received major recognition in several home categories, including a win for Best New Home in the $625,000-$674,999 range for its custom-built Marda Loop Dream Home. This project holds special significance for Tom and his wife, Jamie, who designed and built the home for their family, moving in a year ago.
Family Milestones and Custom Design
The award comes during what Tom describes as one of the busiest and happiest periods of his life. Just over two weeks prior to the interview, he and Jamie welcomed their first child, a son named Xander. "We kept it a surprise," Tom said. "We named him Xander because we loved the name, but also because we couldn’t pass up on the initials — XO."
The couple is adjusting to life as new parents. "We are settling into formal routines. The lack of sleep is real for sure," Tom said with a laugh. "But it is just the most amazing thing. We’re loving every minute of it." The past year has been packed with milestones for the couple, who have been together for five years. "We knocked everything off of the list at once. Engagement, wedding, new home and a baby. It’s been a big 12 months."
Having a custom-built home designed for family living has made everything flow more easily. Tom noted that building the home with Jamie made the experience even more meaningful. "This was her first time building a home from scratch. Seeing the process through her eyes was so exciting for me. It was great doing everything with her."
