Vancouver-based mineral exploration company Koryx Copper Inc. has announced significant progress on its two key projects in Zambia's prolific Copperbelt region. The company has successfully defined multiple drill targets at its Luanshya West project and wrapped up a first-pass regional surface geochemical program at the larger Mpongwe license.
Progress Paves Way for 2026 Drilling
The company, trading on the TSX Venture Exchange under the symbol KRY, provided the update on December 5, 2025. According to the release, the results from the 2025 field season have set the stage for a maiden drill program planned for early 2026 at Luanshya West.
Heye Daun, President and CEO of Koryx Copper, expressed satisfaction with the early-stage exploration. "We are pleased to provide an update on our Zambian Projects where early stage exploration has progressed well through the field season," Daun stated. "At Luanshya West we are now ready for our maiden drill program in early 2026 where a number of very interesting targets in various stratigraphic and structural settings have been identified."
Luanshya West: Targets Confirmed with Advanced Surveys
The Luanshya West Project, covering 54 square kilometres, is situated on the southeastern edge of the Chambishi sub-basin. This area is geologically significant, hosting known deposits like Chibuluma and Chifupu along strike. The primary exploration focus is on the Lower Roan Subgroup rocks, which host most of the mineralization in the region.
The 2025 work program at Luanshya West was comprehensive and yielded concrete results:
- Drone Magnetic Survey: A high-resolution survey flown at 50-meter line spacing provided detailed data, improving upon historical geophysics. This allowed for enhanced lithological and structural interpretations, crucial for target prioritization.
- Geochemical Refinement: The company extended and infilled soil sampling, better defining copper and cobalt soil geochemistry anomalies. Reconnaissance mapping and selected pitting helped rank these anomalies more robustly.
- Multiple Targets Defined: The integrated data set has confirmed several compelling targets ready for drill testing.
Mpongwe: Laying the Groundwork with Regional Sampling
At the much larger Mpongwe Project, which spans 675 square kilometres, Koryx has completed an initial regional surface geochemical sampling program over most of the license area. This first-pass work is designed to identify broad areas of interest for more focused follow-up exploration.
"At the Mpongwe Project, initial regional surface sampling has been completed over most of the license and we expect to have areas for follow up in early 2026," added CEO Heye Daun. The company plans to finalize interpretations during the upcoming wet season in preparation for the 2026 field activities.
Strategic Position in a Premier Copper District
Koryx holds an option to acquire up to an 80% interest in these projects. Their location is strategically important, lying within the Central African Copperbelt (CACB). The CACB is recognized as the world's largest sedimentary rock-hosted stratiform copper province, home to mining giants like First Quantum Minerals' Kansanshi and Sentinel mines, and Ivanhoe's Kamoa-Kakula complex.
The company's work at Luanshya West specifically targets the footwall arenites of the Lower Roan, a known host for major deposits, and also explores prospectivity at the contact zone between the Mwashya and lower Nguba Subgroups.
With targets now defined and a drill program on the horizon for early 2026, Koryx Copper is moving from early-stage exploration to a critical phase of target testing in one of the globe's most esteemed copper jurisdictions.
