The Saskatchewan NDP is accusing SaskPower of hiding the true costs of refurbishing coal plants, alleging that the crown corporation has heavily redacted documents and that cost estimates vary widely. Wayne Mantyka reports.
The opposition party says it has been blocked from accessing full details on the refurbishment, raising concerns about transparency and fiscal responsibility. The NDP claims that the redacted information could hide significant cost overruns or mismanagement.
According to the NDP, the cost gap between initial estimates and current projections is substantial, suggesting that SaskPower may be downplaying the financial burden on ratepayers. The party is calling for a full public accounting of the project's expenses.
SaskPower has not yet responded to the allegations, but the issue is expected to be raised in the provincial legislature. The NDP says it will continue to push for transparency and accountability in the management of the province's energy infrastructure.
