Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston stated on Thursday that he is not concerned about a financial extension granted to a company bidding on offshore petroleum rights. Speaking to reporters in Halifax, Houston emphasized that the province remains committed to responsible resource development and that such extensions are not uncommon in the industry.
The extension, which allows the bidder additional time to secure financing, has raised questions about the viability of the project. However, Houston dismissed these concerns, noting that the bidding process is designed to attract serious investors while maintaining regulatory standards.
Houston highlighted that the province's offshore petroleum sector continues to attract interest, and this extension is a routine part of business negotiations. He expressed confidence that the project will proceed once financial arrangements are finalized.
The premier also reiterated the importance of balancing economic growth with environmental stewardship, ensuring that any development meets strict safety and sustainability criteria.
