Disney's newest cruise ship, the Disney Adventure, is back in operation after a mechanical problem forced the entertainment giant to cancel its previous voyage just days earlier. The ship, which is the largest in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, experienced the issue shortly after passengers had boarded in Singapore.
Guests Onboard for Over a Day Before Cancellation
According to reports from USA Today, passengers had already embarked on the Disney Adventure in Singapore on May 7 when the cruise was unexpectedly called off. They were asked to disembark after spending approximately 26 hours aboard, as noted by the New York Post. The mechanical failure prompted Disney to prioritize passenger safety and cancel the sailing.
Compensation Offered to Affected Passengers
Disney offered a comprehensive compensation package to all affected guests. This included a full refund of their cruise fares, as well as reimbursement for any unused prepaid incidentals such as photo packages. Additionally, passengers received a 50 percent discount on a future sailing, complimentary hotel accommodations for the cancellation day on May 7, reimbursement for any hotel and flight change fees, and up to US$500 to cover incidentals. Disney also provided additional assistance on a case-by-case basis for those who needed further support.
Impact on International Travelers
Canadian Travel News reported that several travelers, including some who had flown in from Australia and other countries, expressed frustration as this was their second cancelled Disney booking. This raised doubts about whether they would rebook with the company in the future. The news site did not specify if any Canadian passengers were affected. National Post has reached out to Disney for comment on whether any Canadians were onboard but has not yet received a response.
About the Disney Adventure
The Disney Adventure is a massive vessel weighing 208,000 gross tons, making it the largest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. It entered service in March 2026 and can accommodate up to 6,700 passengers. The ship features seven themed zones and is central to Disney's expansion across Asia. Its home port is Singapore, marking the first time Disney Cruise Line has permanently based a ship outside the United States.
Maiden Voyage and Subsequent Sailing
The Disney Adventure embarked on its maiden voyage from Singapore on March 10, as reported by Fox News. After the mechanical issue was resolved, the ship departed on its next scheduled sailing on May 11, just days after the cancellation. The company assured that the problem has been fixed and the vessel is now operating normally.
