Denny's Canada Announces Permanent Closure of Barrie Restaurant
Denny's Canada has officially confirmed the long-term closure of its Barrie, Ontario location, marking the end of an era for the popular dining spot that had served the community since August 2023. The difficult decision was announced on November 26, 2025, following months of behind-the-scenes efforts to resolve operational challenges that emerged in October.
Failed Negotiations Lead to Closure
The company revealed that despite diligent work by their team, they were unable to reach a viable solution with both the franchisee and landlord to resume operations. Bobby Naicker, Director of Franchise Development at Denny's Canada, expressed disappointment while acknowledging the restaurant's positive impact. "While we are disappointed to conclude service at Denny's Barrie for now, we remain proud of the experiences we've created and deeply appreciative of the support from the local community," Naicker stated.
The closure affects team members who had provided guests with genuine hospitality experiences over the past two years. Naicker extended sincere gratitude to these employees, recognizing their role in creating a sense of community at the Barrie location.
Future Growth Plans Remain Strong
Despite the Barrie closure, Denny's Canada emphasized its ongoing commitment to regional expansion across Ontario and nationwide. The company expressed particular confidence in the East Coast market's potential. "We have great confidence in the strength of our brand and the increasing potential of the East Coast market," continued Naicker. "We certainly look forward to exploring future opportunities, alongside ensuring that we once again can serve the city of Barrie."
Customers can still visit Denny's locations in nearby cities including Toronto, Mississauga, and Vaughan to enjoy the comfort, quality, and connection that defines the Denny's Canada experience.
