Police have laid 74 charges in connection with a series of auto thefts in Halton and Waterloo regions, targeting a suspected organized crime ring. The investigation, dubbed Project Wrecker, involved multiple agencies and led to the arrest of several individuals.
Details of the Investigation
Authorities say the thefts involved high-end vehicles stolen from residential driveways and dealerships. The suspects allegedly used sophisticated methods to bypass security systems and re-identify vehicles for resale.
Charges Laid
The charges include theft of motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, and participation in a criminal organization. Police recovered numerous stolen vehicles worth millions of dollars.
“This operation demonstrates our commitment to dismantling organized crime networks that target our communities,” said a police spokesperson.
Further arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
