Waterloo Regional Police Issue Warning About Recent Scams
Waterloo Regional Police are alerting the community after receiving reports of 10 bank and courier scams in the last month. The scams have primarily targeted elderly individuals, with fraudsters posing as bank officials or courier services to steal money and personal information.
Investigators urge residents to be cautious when receiving unsolicited calls or messages requesting financial details or payment. Police emphasize that legitimate banks and courier companies will never ask for sensitive information over the phone or demand immediate payment through gift cards or wire transfers.
Victims have reported losing significant sums of money. Police are working with financial institutions to track the fraudulent activity and remind the public to verify any suspicious requests by contacting their bank directly using official phone numbers.
Anyone with information about these scams is asked to contact Waterloo Regional Police or Crime Stoppers.
