A 24-year-old man is facing multiple charges after police discovered a loaded firearm during a routine traffic stop in Surrey, British Columbia. The incident occurred on Monday evening in the city's downtown core, leading to the arrest of Gurwinder Singh.
Details of the Incident
According to the Surrey Police Service, officers stopped a vehicle near 148th Street and 108th Avenue at approximately 7:45 p.m. for a driving infraction. During the stop, one of the occupants was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm. The suspect, identified as Gurwinder Singh, was taken into custody without incident.
Charges Filed
Singh now faces six charges related to the firearm, including:
- Possession of a loaded restricted or prohibited firearm
- Occupying a vehicle knowing there was a prohibited firearm inside
- Possession of a firearm without a licence
- Carrying a concealed weapon

Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton confirmed that the traffic stop was routine and not related to any extortion investigation. He emphasized that the arrest was a result of officers' vigilance during a standard enforcement action.
