Waterloo Regional Police have arrested an 18-year-old Kitchener man in connection with more than 20 criminal offences linked to a series of robberies stemming from online marketplace transactions. The suspect was taken into custody on July 3, 2026, following an investigation that began in late June.
Details of the Arrest
The accused faces charges including multiple counts of robbery, assault with a weapon, and possession of stolen property. Police allege the suspect arranged meetings with victims through online marketplaces such as Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji, then robbed them at gunpoint or with a weapon. The incidents occurred across Kitchener and surrounding areas.
“We believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward,” said Constable Ashley Dietrich of the Waterloo Regional Police Service. “We urge anyone who had a similar experience to contact us.”
Impact on the Community
The arrests come amid a rise in online marketplace-related crimes in the region. Police have issued safety tips for users, including meeting in well-lit, public places and bringing a friend. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on July 4, 2026. The investigation remains ongoing.
