Leviathan Metals Corp. (LVX – TSXV, LVXFF – OTC, 0GP – FSE) has announced the start of a diamond core drilling program of up to 10,000 meters at its 100%-owned Central Project in the Kalahari Copper Belt (KCB), Botswana. The drilling is designed to target sediment-hosted copper mineralization similar in style and scale to that observed at MMG Limited's adjoining Khoemacau property.
Drilling Targets and Geological Context
The program focuses on the D'Kar-Ngwako Pan Formation (DKF-NPF) contact, which is folded into a prominent domal structure known as the Hyena Hills dome. Over 20 kilometers of this prospective contact have been interpreted from recent airborne electromagnetic survey data and high-resolution ground magnetic surveys completed in 2023-2024. Initial drillholes will precisely locate the contact, with subsequent holes testing prioritized structural target areas.
Operational Details
Drilling is being performed by Mitchell Drilling International using a Sandvik DE710 diamond rig. Mitchell brings 57 years of global drilling experience, including nearly 20 years in similar conditions within Botswana's KCB. Leviathan's Chief Operations Officer, Jeremy Crozier, expressed excitement about the program, stating: "We are very excited to have commenced drilling of this remarkable target – with the objective of demonstrating the potential of Central to host further Khoemacau type mineralization."
Project Significance
The Central Project covers a large area with multiple dome structures, and the company's budget allows for property-scale work. The mineralization at Khoemacau is not necessarily indicative of mineralization at Leviathan's project, but the geological similarities provide a strong basis for exploration. The program is expected to run over several months, with results to guide further drilling.
