Construction of $300M Core Crossings Project Underway in West Lethbridge
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, for the Core Crossings development in west Lethbridge. The $300 million project is set to transform the area with a mix of residential, commercial, and community spaces.
The development, located near the intersection of University Drive and McMaster Boulevard, will include hundreds of new homes, retail outlets, restaurants, and public amenities. City officials and developers gathered to mark the start of construction, which is expected to take several years to complete.
Mayor Blaine Hyggen called the project a significant milestone for Lethbridge, highlighting its potential to boost the local economy and provide much-needed housing. The development is designed to be a walkable, mixed-use community with green spaces and easy access to public transit.
Core Crossings is being built by Westbridge Investments, a Calgary-based developer. The company’s CEO, John Doe, said the project reflects a growing demand for integrated communities in the region. Phase one will focus on infrastructure and the first residential buildings, with completion anticipated by 2028.
Local residents expressed optimism about the project, though some raised concerns about increased traffic and construction disruptions. City planners have promised measures to minimize impacts, including temporary road adjustments and noise mitigation.
The Core Crossings project is part of a broader push to expand Lethbridge’s west side, which has seen rapid growth in recent years. With the groundbreaking complete, work is now underway to bring the vision to life.
