Regula, a global leader in identity verification solutions, is set to challenge traditional age verification methods at Identity Week Europe 2026. The company argues that age checks should evolve from a one-time event into a continuous process to ensure ongoing identity assurance.
The Shift from One-Time Verification to Continuous Assurance
At the upcoming event, Arif Mamedov, CEO of Regula Forensics, Inc., will deliver a session titled “Verified Once, Assumed Forever: From One-Time Age Checks to Continuous Identity Assurance.” The presentation will highlight the limitations of current age verification systems, which often assume that the person who passes the initial check remains the sole user of the account. In reality, accounts can be shared among family members, transferred to younger siblings, or even sold online, rendering initial verification ineffective over time.
Regulators worldwide are tightening requirements for age verification and child protection online. Jurisdictions such as the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, and several US states are introducing or strengthening age assurance mandates. Enforcement actions have revealed that traditional single-event verification methods are insufficient to prevent underage access.
“Most age verification discussions still focus on how to verify a user at onboarding. But that is only part of the problem,” says Arif Mamedov. “The more important question is what happens afterward. A verified account can be shared, transferred, or used by someone other than the original account holder. Businesses need to think beyond one-time checks and build systems that maintain identity assurance throughout the customer journey.”
Real-World Challenges and Practical Solutions
During the session, Mamedov will explore why many age assurance failures stem not from weaknesses in individual technologies, but from flawed system design assumptions. Real-world examples of account sharing, device transfer, and verified account marketplaces will be examined. The presentation will offer practical approaches to continuous identity assurance, emphasizing that age verification should be an ongoing process of building and maintaining trust.
Regula’s Technological Edge in Age Assurance
Regula’s identity verification solutions combine document verification, biometric checks, liveness detection, and multiple data cross-checks to help organizations verify age efficiently. Depending on regulatory and business requirements, organizations can apply different levels of assurance—from portrait-based age estimation to thorough document-backed verification.
The company’s age estimation approach has received independent validation. In the latest NIST Face Analysis Technology Evaluation (FATE) for age estimation, Regula achieved the highest overall accuracy among all tested vendors, delivering the most precise results across multiple geographies and demographic groups. Regula also ranked among the top three vendors in the Challenge 25 and Child Online Safety (13-16) categories, demonstrating strong performance in preventing underage access and protecting children online.
Regula’s participation at Identity Week Europe 2026 underscores the growing need for continuous identity assurance in an era of evolving regulatory expectations and sophisticated account sharing practices.
