Kia Canada Selects 13 Youth as Match Ball Carriers for 2026 World Cup
Kia Canada Names 13 Youth for 2026 World Cup Ball Carrier Role

Kia Canada, a proud FIFA partner, has announced the selection of 13 Canadian youth as Kia Official Match Ball Carriers for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026. These young individuals will have the opportunity to carry the official match ball onto the pitch during matches hosted in Toronto and Vancouver, presenting it to the referee to mark the start of the game.

Two Pathways to the World Cup

The selection process involved two distinct pathways: the Kia OMBC Cup tryouts and the Inspiring Stories program. Through these initiatives, Kia Canada aimed to identify youth who demonstrate passion, perseverance, and leadership both on and off the soccer field.

Official Match Ball Carrier Cup

Seven Canadian youth earned their roles through national soccer tryouts and represented Canada at the Kia Official Match Ball Carrier Cup, an international youth soccer tournament held in Los Angeles. The tournament brought together players aged 10 to 13 from Canada and eight other countries, offering a high-performance experience that included a training camp, international matches, and mentorship from soccer legends such as Canada's own Christine Sinclair.

The Canadian team finished third in their group, securing a victory over the United States and earning a draw against Spain. Their performance highlighted skill, teamwork, and determination, though they narrowly missed advancing to the elimination stage by just one point. The Kia OMBC Cup served as a unique extension of the Official Match Ball Carrier journey, providing these youth with an international experience ahead of their roles at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Inspiring Stories Program

Six additional Canadian youth were named Official Match Ball Carriers through Kia Canada's Inspiring Stories program. This program celebrates young people who make a positive impact in their communities through leadership, perseverance, and a love of sport. Parents and guardians nominated eligible youth by submitting short videos sharing their child's personal story and passion for soccer. Selection was based on the uniqueness of their story, how they have overcome challenges or made a difference in their communities, and how they inspire others both on and off the pitch.

Michael Kopke, Director of Marketing at Kia Canada, expressed pride in the selected youth, stating, "Whether through their dedication to the sport or the positive impact they're making in their communities, these youth truly embody the spirit of the game. We're incredibly proud to help share their stories and give them the opportunity of a lifetime to step onto the FIFA World Cup stage."

The Kia Official Match Ball Carrier program connects grassroots soccer to the global stage, offering youth a once-in-a-lifetime experience at the FIFA World Cup. The selected carriers will take centre stage at Canadian-hosted matches, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
