Details of the assault

The victim, a 16-year-old girl, was walking in the area when she was approached by an unknown male suspect. The suspect allegedly grabbed her and sexually assaulted her before fleeing the scene on foot. The victim was not physically injured but was taken to a hospital for examination and support.

Police describe the suspect as a South Asian man in his 20s, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a medium build and short black hair. He was last seen wearing a dark hoodie and dark pants.

Police response

Surrey RCMP are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on June 8 to come forward. Investigators are also reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses.

“This was a brazen attack in a residential area in the middle of the afternoon,” said Cpl. James Mason of the Surrey RCMP. “We are doing everything we can to identify and apprehend the suspect.”
