SIU Investigates Kingsville Arrest After Taser Use

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate following an arrest by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Kingsville that involved the use of a conducted energy weapon, commonly known as a Taser, and resulted in the suspect requiring medical attention.

Incident Details

According to an OPP news release, officers responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle on Grandview Avenue on the morning of May 25. After an initial investigation, police arrested one individual. During the arrest, officers deployed a Taser. While in custody, the person needed medical care and was transported to hospital by ambulance.

SIU Involvement

The SIU, a civilian law enforcement agency, investigates incidents involving police where there is a death, serious injury, discharge of a firearm at a person, or alleged sexual assault. With the SIU now involved, the OPP has stated they cannot provide further details.
