Ottawa police are warning the public about distraction thefts after two separate incidents occurred just hours apart. The first incident took place in the afternoon, followed by another in the evening, both involving suspects who distracted victims before stealing their belongings.
One victim, Shang La, described the experience as violating. Video footage shows La chasing after a vehicle following the alleged theft. 'I was violated,' La said, expressing shock at the brazen nature of the crime.
Police advise residents to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with strangers who approach them unexpectedly. They recommend keeping valuables out of sight and reporting any suspicious activity immediately.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are reviewing surveillance footage to identify the suspects. No arrests have been made yet.
