Calgary Marathon, Cow Sweaters, and Stampeders Fan Fest

Postmedia Calgary photographers were busy capturing the vibrant events around the city and surrounding areas over the weekend, from the Servus Calgary Marathon to unique farmyard fashion and the Calgary Stampeders Fan Fest.

Servus Calgary Marathon: A Weekend of Athletic Achievement

The Servus Calgary Marathon took center stage, drawing thousands of participants and spectators. On Friday, runners gathered at Stampede Park to pick up their gear, with marathon ambassador Roch Pedida on hand to greet them. Joelle and Samuel Hillier received cheers from children Charlotte and Felix as they prepared for the race.

Saturday featured the Wild Wee Ones Kids Races, where hundreds of children participated. Harvey the Hound energized the crowd, and thirteen-month-old Georgia King-Moore took part in the Diaper Dash. Families sported matching outfits, and Harmony Run Club volunteers Dana Lang and Amber Vanee cheered on 5K finishers.

Crocheted Cow Sweaters: A Unique Farm Trend

Hobby farmer Jasmine Entz, based in Vulcan County south of Calgary, has been dressing her retired dairy cow Josie in crocheted sweaters. What began as a small project for newborn goats expanded to include seasonal costumes for a calendar Entz plans to release next year. Josie was photographed in an Easter-themed sweater with matching bunny ears and a St. Paddy's-themed outfit with a leprechaun hat. Entz also held a baby goat dressed in a crocheted sweater.

Around Vulcan and Area

Photographers also captured scenes around Vulcan, including the USS Enterprise display honoring Star Trek, the iconic grain elevator, and a tractor working a field near Blackie, Alta., during springtime.

Calgary Stampeders Fan Fest

At McMahon Stadium on Saturday, the Calgary Stampeders hosted Fan Fest. Players like Tre'Mon Morris-Brash and Jalen Philpott interacted with fans, throwing footballs and signing autographs. Fans Hayden Hanson and Shawna Emsley tossed the pigskin around, while Alyssa Berze got a photo and her jersey signed by Philpott. The Hype Squad and cheer squad performed, and the Calgary Bantam Football Association mascot Gordie greeted children.
