Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say a passenger was spotted sitting in the open trunk of an SUV on Highway 417 in Ottawa last Saturday, recording two sports cars with a phone. The incident was captured on video and shared on social media, prompting an investigation.
Incident Details
The OPP confirmed that officers were alerted to the dangerous behavior after the video circulated online. In the footage, an individual is seen perched in the trunk of a moving SUV, apparently filming a pair of sports cars traveling nearby. The vehicle was reportedly on the eastbound lanes of Highway 417 when the incident occurred.
Police noted that such actions are extremely hazardous, as the passenger was not secured and could easily fall out or be injured in a collision. The driver could also face charges for allowing someone to ride in an unsafe manner.
Police Response
As of now, the OPP has not laid any charges but continues to investigate. They urge anyone with information to come forward. The police also reminded the public that riding in the trunk of a vehicle is illegal and poses serious risks.
This incident comes amid a series of reckless driving behaviors reported on Ottawa highways, highlighting the need for increased awareness and enforcement of traffic laws.
