Stellantis has issued an urgent advisory for owners of approximately 1.3 million Jeep vehicles, instructing them to park outside due to a potential fire risk. The warning, announced on Tuesday, affects several Jeep models, including the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler, from model years 2021 through 2023.
Fire Hazard Details
The company stated that a defect in the vehicles' anti-lock brake system could cause a short circuit, leading to an engine compartment fire even when the vehicle is turned off. Stellantis has received reports of 50 fires and one injury related to the issue, though no fatalities have been reported.
Affected Models
- 2021-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee
- 2021-2023 Jeep Wrangler
- 2021-2023 Jeep Gladiator
- 2021-2023 Jeep Compass
Owners are advised to park their vehicles outdoors and away from structures until repairs are completed. The company is working on a fix, which will be provided free of charge at dealerships. Notifications will be sent to affected owners starting in July.
Previous Recalls
This is not the first fire-related recall for Stellantis. In 2023, the company recalled over 300,000 Ram trucks for a similar issue. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has been investigating the matter since early 2025.
Stellantis emphasized that owners should continue to drive their vehicles but should park them outdoors as a precaution. The company also recommends contacting local dealerships for interim measures, such as software updates, until permanent repairs are available.
