Air Canada A321XLR Takes Off with Glowing Hearted Cabin

Air Canada has officially launched scheduled service for its first Airbus A321XLR, marking a significant milestone for the airline. The aircraft departed Montréal for Toronto on June 9, 2026, carrying 182 passengers and ushering in a new era of travel.

Transformative Fleet Addition

Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Air Canada, emphasized the aircraft's importance. "The entry into service of the first Airbus A321XLR marks a transformative moment for Air Canada and the beginning of an exciting new era for our customers, industry partners, and colleagues," he said. The A321XLR will unlock new destinations, improve service on existing markets, and enhance the onboard experience. Notably, it offers lie-flat seats on a single-aisle aircraft for a Canadian carrier, a first for premium transatlantic and North American routes.

Enhanced Passenger Experience

The aircraft introduces Air Canada's new Glowing Hearted cabin standard, which focuses on calm, comfort, and connectivity. Features include personal device power at every seat, fast free Wi-Fi for Aeroplan Members sponsored by Bell, larger next-generation in-flight entertainment screens with Bluetooth connectivity, and curated cabin finishes inspired by the Canadian landscape. This design aligns with the airline's brand and commitment to enduring quality.

International Debut

The A321XLR is scheduled to make its inaugural international flight on June 15 from Montréal to Toulouse. Sustainability and Efficiency

Colin Bole, Senior Vice President Customers, North America at Airbus, highlighted the A321XLR's environmental benefits. "This aircraft delivers a 30% reduction in fuel burn per seat and the ability to operate with up to 50% neat Sustainable Aviation Fuel," he said. The A321XLR supports Air Canada's network growth by bridging short-haul and long-haul operations more sustainably.
