Third Man Charged in Murder of Toronto Senior Jolan Kun

Toronto police have charged a third man with first-degree murder in connection with the death of a 79-year-old woman whose body was discovered in her York apartment late last year.

Andrew Christopher Matthews, also known as Andrew Christopher Chesson, 39, of Peterborough, was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Jolan Kun. The announcement came on Thursday, six months after officers responded to a call on Dec. 8 at approximately 8:20 a.m. in the St. Clair Avenue West and Rushton Road area.

Kun was found deceased inside an apartment unit, and a post-mortem examination determined her death to be a homicide. She is identified as Toronto's 38th homicide victim of 2025.

Two other men, Ashton Drysdale and Kaream Hines, both 38 and from Toronto, were previously arrested in January and charged with first-degree murder. Drysdale faces an additional 20 charges, including possession of a firearm without a licence, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a probation order, and ten counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) launched an investigation into Drysdale's statutory release after he had been wanted since March 2025 for a parole violation. Drysdale had received statutory release after serving two-thirds of an eight-year and eight-month sentence for robbery with violence, a drug charge, and four firearm-related offences, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

"Realizing the serious and tragic charges that have been laid, it is important that it be thoroughly reviewed to fully examine the circumstances around what happened," the CSC stated. "To this end, CSC has launched an investigation and will not hesitate to implement any measures, as determined necessary, to further enhance public safety."

It remains unclear whether that investigation has been completed.
