London, Ontario – A progress report has been released detailing the $500,000 upgrade to a troubled public housing building at 122 Base Line Road, which was constructed in 2021. The London and Middlesex Housing Corporation (LMHC) has painted a dire picture of conditions at the site, where several tenants have raised serious concerns about safety and maintenance.
Background of the Building
The building, built just five years ago, has faced numerous issues, including reports of mold, faulty plumbing, and inadequate security. Tenants have complained about broken elevators, pest infestations, and a lack of proper ventilation. The LMHC acknowledged these problems and initiated a $500,000 upgrade to address the most pressing issues.
Scope of the Upgrade
The upgrade includes repairs to the heating and cooling systems, replacement of damaged flooring, and installation of new security cameras. Additionally, the LMHC has pledged to improve communication with tenants and provide regular updates on the progress of repairs.
“We understand the frustrations of our residents,” said an LMHC spokesperson. “This investment is a step toward ensuring that 122 Base Line Road meets the standards our tenants deserve.”
Despite the upgrade, some tenants remain skeptical. “We have been waiting for these repairs for months,” said a resident who wished to remain anonymous. “I hope this time they follow through.”
The LMHC has committed to completing the upgrade by the end of the year. Further updates will be provided as work progresses.
